Chokes
Morgan’s NilcraTM Zirconia has found a wide range of successful applications to combat wear and corrosive effects in the Oil and Gas production and Exploration industries.
NilcraTM Zirconia is used extensively as the material of choice in valves, chokes and pump components used in well heads, control valves used in the oil refinery processes and the extraction of oil from oilsands.
Rotary and linear control valves use NilcraTM Zirconia as the plug, seat and liner material. This trim type is used to combat the erosive and corrosive environments found in oil refineries and in particular the extraction of bitumen from the Canadian oil sands.
Morgan’s NilcraTM Zirconia was the first Zirconia ceramic to be used as the liner material in mud pumps used for the extraction of drill chips from oil and gas exploration and production drill holes. Zirconia provides superior wear resistance and hence increased life compared to Alumina ceramic and conventional Chrome Iron liners.
NilcraTM Zirconia is being used to replace hardened alloy materials for the Case, Separation and Wear Rings in multistage centrifugal pumps used by the offshore oil and gas production industry. The increased life compared t conventional materials means that the time between pump rebuilds is increased by 3-5 times. This represent huge savings to oil producers as the cost of bringing heavy equipment back to shore from the rigs is significant.
