Can tooling
Morgan’s ProseamerTM ceramic can seaming rolls manufactured from NilcraTM Zirconia removes or significantly reduces many of the problems resulting from wear and corrosion of can tooling components.
ProseamerTM provides consistent, scuff free seams over a long life time. The low wear rates of the seam profile means less adjustments and longer production runs between adjustments.
The high strength of the ProseamerTM made from NilcraTM Zirconia means the rolls are highly durable and can survive production jams or crashes.
Morgan’s ProseamerTM is harder than steel or chrome-alloy rolls, highly resistant to corrosive food stuffs (tomato, pineapple etc), have low friction characteristics, are gentle on lacquer coated can surfaces, are solid ceramic – not a surface coating and NilcraTM Zirconia is USFDA approved for food contact.
Over nearly 20 years of using Proseamers, steel sanitary can makers and food canneries have realised the benefits of reduced downtime and increased rolls life – by as much as 5-10 times over steel rolls.
Proseamers increase the roll consistency because of the reduced wear on the profile, reduce scuffing caused by eliminating the metal and enamel pick up that regularly occurs on steel rolls.
Other Can Tooling Applications
Following the successful use of NilcraTM Zirconia in the ProseamerTM range, other can tooling applications were developed where the same material properties were required.
Spin Flange Rolls made from NilcraTM Zirconia have the same advantages as for the ProseamerTM. With the introduction of internal can coatings it became important not to scratch or scuff the inside of the can during the flanging process. Spin Flange Roll heads made from NilcraTM Zirconia exhibit the same “gentle” non-galling and non-scuffing properties as the Proseamer.
Calibration and Wire profile rolls for 3 piece can welding machines improve roll life and consistency NilcraTM Zirconia is non-magnetic which prevents the components from being affected by the ER weld field.
